How to Detox and Use Essential Oils in Your Daily Life

A healthy lifestyle is built on a foundation of nutrition, exercise, rest and limiting toxic exposure. Essential oils have become a huge part of my daily routine. What areas do you need improvement in?

Here's how essential oils can help improve health and wellness on a daily basis:

Take Effective Supplements

Supplements fill the gap that we miss in our health. It is difficult to get enough nutrients everyday with all the anti nutrients in our diet. Lifelong Vitality Supplements give your body daily nutritional support. They include the right amount of vitamins and minerals your body needs each day to function at optimal level. They also add the benefits of essential oils and Omega oils. Another great vitamin regimen is the Nutrient Pack, which still includes your daily vitamins, minerals, omega oils and essential oils.

Terrazyme helps to support healthy digestion and metabolic processes. Enzymes are crucial to digestion and can actually help prevent acid reflux and heart burn. If you have these symptoms, taking tums or anti acid medication actually eliminates necessary acid we need in our stomach to properly digest food. If you suffer from these symptoms, try taking an enzyme supplement or eat more raw vegetable which offer these helpful enzymes.

DDR Prime helps the body protect against oxidative damage to cellular DNA. Our health starts in our cells at their smallest point. Heal the cell, heal the body. Free radicals and pollution damage our cells and they copy themselves this way and damage our DNA. If our cells are working at optimal level our health will reflect that.

Lemon essential oil has many wonderful and powerful uses. Not only can it be used to clean around the house but it also aids in mild detoxification. Lemon helps the body to flush out toxins and cleanse our cells of impurities.

Mito2Max is a great supplement to help increase energy without caffeine. It can actually be used as a substitute for caffeinated beverages.

Slim & Sassy

The Slim & Sassy line as many products that can benefit people who are on the go and are trying to manage weight loss and appetite control. The Trim Shakes are a healthy meal alternative and also work well as a snack when cravings erupt. Trim shakes help manage metabolism and appetite. They also include fiber and ingredients to help decrease cortisol, the stress hormone. Shakes do not use artificial ingredients. I personally use the V Shake because it's protein is plant based and remains gluten and dairy free. This shake is a great alternative for those who have food allergies.

Deep Blue soothing blend is helpful for individuals who suffer from body aches and pains. I personally use the Deep Blue rub on my knees and wrists since I have joint pain.

Gut Health

For individuals with stomach disorders or who have frequent infections, I recommend using PB Assist on a daily basis. It is a probiotic that is double capsuled to make sure it makes it to the colon before digested.Whenever I have an upset stomach I don't run to Imodium anymore. I take probiotics and they are just as effective.

Those who are just recently starting their journey to a healthier lifestyle, I recommend doing a cleanse by using GX Assist for 10 days. This formula helps cleanse the gut and prepare for healing. After the tenth day you would use the PB Assist for 5 days to put all good bacteria back into the gut. Your gut is a very important organ to take care of. Seventy-five to eighty percent of your immune system is in your gut and most Americans have more bad bacteria that good in their gut. By doing a simple cleanse you can eliminate many symptoms like frequents infections, acne, eczema, digestive upset, and more.It is important during the cleanse to limit sugars to a bare minimum and to steer clear of antibiotics. Sugar and antibiotics both feed the bad bacteria, causing more inflammation. Every person is different so each person must take a unique approach to cleansing. Do not attempt a cleanse if pregnant, nursing or are under medical care for a stomach disorder. If you have a stomach disorder,  ask doctor about cleansing to make sure it is in line with their treatment and that there are no contraindications.

Last but need least, DIFFUSE!
Diffusing essential oils in your home and bathroom can help eliminate odors, free radicals and enhance the mood of everyone in the home. Essential oils have been known to change brain chemistry and affect emotions.

The Benefits of Frankincense Essential Oil

The first time I heard of Frankincense was in the story about the birth of Jesus Christ. There were three "wise men" that studied the stars. There was one star that was unique and prophesied about. These men followed the star and when they found it they ended up in a manger where Jesus was born, surrounded by animals. The only place available for Mary to give birth was the Inn where the animals stayed. The three men each brought a gift for the child: Gold, Myrrh and Frankincense. These words had little meaning to me until I found out what Myrrh and Frankincense actually were.

Frankincense is a resin taken from trees and shrubs in Oman. For centuries people have used Frankincense for improving health and wellness. I particularly think it's awesome Jesus was given Frankincense and Myrrh because those are some of the safest essential oils that can be used on babies.

Here are some known uses for Frankincense:

Known Properties
- Anticatarrhal
- anticancer
- antidepressant
- anti-infectious
- anti-inflammatory
- antiseptic
- antitumor
- expectorant
- immune stimulant
- sedative

Frankincense has many uses. I use it in a blend that I apply to my thyroid. I also use it when I notice I may be getting sick. I have used it on the bottom of my feet to help with anxiety. I also use it in my homemade skincare products. I rub it on my stomach daily to help my skin because I gave birth a little over nine months ago. This is one of the oils I use on my daughter before/after vaccines. Frankincense has been very effective when I have used it to calm coughing. Here are some other common uses:

- Alzheimer's Disease
- Aneurysm
- Arthitis
- Cognitive function
- Brain Injury
- Breathing
- Cancer
- Coma
- Coughs
- Depression
- Immune system support
- Inflammation
- Infected wounds
- Vision problems
- Moles
- MRSA
- Uterus Tissue Rejuvenation
- PostPartum Depression
- Scar Prevention
- Lipoma
- Warts
- Wrinkles

Frankincense affects emotional health, skin health and the Nervous and Immune system. When diffused it may help focus energy and improve concentration. Frankincense can be used aromatically, internally and topically on reflexology points. Children under six years old shouldn't take Frankincense internally.

How to Use the Most Basic Essential Oils

When starting out with essential oils it can be a little overwhelming. There are so many oils to chose from. Where does one start? When I first started using essential oils, I started with The Family Physician's Kit. It includes all your basic essential oils that you need around the house.

Here are the Basics:

Lavender (Relaxation)
I use Lavender essential oil for many things! It is great for enhancing relaxation and calming anxiety. I use it on my infant daughter as well, of course, diluted with coconut oil. I use it for any redness or inflammation on the skin, as well as, diaper rash. Lavender is great for after vaccines to apply to shot areas and the bottom of the feet to help relax children. Lavender is also ideal for diffusing in the evenings.

Lemon (Detox)
Lemon essential oil aids in detoxification. It helps detox of petrochemicals, which is why you should never drink Lemon oil, or any citrus oils, out of plastic. Lemon oil also has been known to boost immunity. I put a drop in my water to enhance daily detox. I also cook with it sometimes. Last night I added it to baked fish.

Breathe (Respiratory Blend)
Breathe is a wonderful blend of essential oils that enhance breathing and clearing airways. I use this blend whenever my sinuses are congested. Breathe also makes a great chest rub to enhance breathing and calm coughing.

Deep Blue (Natural Pain Relief, anti-inflammatory)
Deep Blue is an amazing essential oil blend that helps with pain relief. I use this blend on my knees and back for pain relief.

Digestzen (Digestive Blend)
Digestzen is the perfect blend for any kind of stomach upset from nausea to diarrhea. I have Bacterial Colitis. This blend has always helped with any stomach pain I have experienced.

Frankincense- The King of Oils
I cannot say enough about Frankincense. This oil can be used for almost everything! Frankincense is harvested in Oman, Frankincense's birth place. Scientific studies have shown that Frankincense kills cancer cells. I also use it in a blend that I apply to my thyroid, which has helped me goiter to shrink. I use Frankincense on my throat and chest when I have a cough. Works better than cough syrup! I haven't used cough syrup in over a year. I also put a drop under my tongue to boost immunity.

Melaleuca (First Aid)
Melaleuca, also known as Tree Trea oil, kills infection and fungus, as well as, promotes a healthy immune system.

Peppermint
Peppermint oil is great for many things! It has been known to calm stomach upset and nausea. I put a drop under my tongue when I get car sick and for fresh breathe. I also use Peppermint oil on the bottoms of my daughter's feet when she has a fever. Together, Peppermint and Lavender make a great headache rub. I also make a homemade mouth wash with Peppermint, Clove, Myrrh, and On Guard that leaves my mouth clean and fresh, since essential oils have anti-bacterial properties.

Oregano (Immune Support)
Oregano has powerful immune defense properties. I have it "Nature's Antibiotic". Oregano oil and On Guard have gotten me over every cold this year. Oregano has been especially helpful at preventing a cold from persisting and becoming bronchitis.

On Guard (Protective Blend)
On Guard helps to eliminate airborne pathogens when diffused. I use it any time I start to sense that I am getting sick. On Guard has been known to boost immunity and kills germs off of surfaces.

Slim and Sassy (Metabolic Blend)
Slim and Sassy helps to manage appetite, cravings, healthy metabolism and blood sugar levels. Slim and Sassy encourages healthy weight loss.

What is a Wellness Advocate and Why Am I one?

Since I was a young girl I have always loved natural remedies. I have always been fascinated by natural medicine and how plants have the potential to heal the body. Over a year ago I was introduced to doTerra Essential Oils. I was given a drop of lemon oil in my water and I was in love! I always loved lemon, but now I was able to get the detox benefits of lemon oil anywhere I was. I was then given a drop of peppermint oil. I dipped my thumb in the oil and put it on the roof of my mouth. With the excess oil in my hands I took a deep breath. My sinuses cleared! My mouth felt fresh and minty! I sensed a new obsession coming. I also loved that the company produced 100% pure essential oils. That means no fillers, no chemicals, no toxins, no nothing extra. They also are third party tested up to seven times to ensure purity. For a college graduation gift I was given The Family Physician's Kit. But I didn't know exactly how to use my new oils. I needed more education and guidance in how to use my natural medicine.

After I gave birth to my daughter I decided to exclusively breastfeed her. A couple months after her birth I started coming down with a cold. I couldn't take any cold medicine while breastfeeding so I was left with one other option: natural remedies. I didn't want to get sick because I was already exhausted from waking every couple hours with my newborn. Mothers don't get sick days, so I needed to be as well as possible, especially since my husband worked 40 hours a week. I started using oregano oil and Onguard, which is a blend that helps boost immunity. I did this routine three times a day until I noticed that my sickness wasn't progressing. I was beside myself! "Woo hoo", I thought, "I dodged another sickness!". After I noticed how well the essential oils worked I started learning more about them and how to use them.

For some months after my daughter was born I couldn't lose any weight. I did P90x and other DVD workout videos. I was exercising and walking often. I was still 25-30 lbs overweight. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't losing weight until I noticed a large lump in my throat. I scheduled a visit to my primary doctor and a specialist. I was told that I had hypothyroidism and goiter. My thyroid was working too hard to produce the thyroid stimulating hormone and caused my gland to swell to the size of a golf ball. It became very difficult to swallow and I constantly felt a heaviness on my throat. I was put on thyroid hormone medication and was told my goiter may not go away unless the gland was removed. In a short story, I freaked out. I knew I needed to change my lifestyle. I had no energy and was barely making it through each day. I started doing research on how to heal hypothyroidism by changing my diet and lifestyle. I needed to be at optimum health for my thyroid to go back into balance.

That's when I ordered a full range of supplements called Lifelong Vitality Pack. They contain all your necessary vitamins, minerals, omega 3s, herbs and essential oils. I started taking those three times a day. Then I created an essential oil regimen to apply to my thyroid every morning and evening. It included: clove, lemongrass, peppermint, frankincense and myrrh. I combined all oils in a roller bottle and added fractionated coconut oil. Along with adding essential oils to my diet, I took gluten out. Gluten causes inflammation in the body for those with thyroid disorders. I also noticed when I went gluten free that my stomach issues calmed down, but that could also be that I take "tummy tamers" in my vitamins too. After doing this routine for a month I noticed a dramatic increase in energy and my goiter was shrinking! I also was able to lose over 10 lbs in one month! The pounds started falling off and still are. Seeing these profound changes led me to where I am today.

I became a Wellness Advocate not to sell oils, but to share them with the sick and diseased. When I first bought my oils I told my sponsor that I did not want to sell them, but as people around me noticed how they helped me they wanted some as well. So you see, I am not a salesperson. I am an educator, teacher and helper. I believe in essential oils and the benefits they have to offer so I share that with others.

Maybe you are passionate about natural health and helping others? Maybe you would like to work with me as a Wellness Advocate and transform the lives of others around you. If this sounds like you, here is what it means to be a Wellness Advocate:

Simple DIY Skincare using Natural Ingredients and Essential Oils

As a licensed Esthetician I love making homemade skincare that smells wonderful. That's why I use Essential oils Making your own skincare can save a lot of money. Sometimes making your own skincare can be even better because you avoid all the added fillers, chemicals and parabens. I have found that my homemade skincare feels better, smells better and works just as good as store bought product.

Homemade Youthful Skin Moisturizer

- Glass Jar (Glass is always recommended when using essential oils because they tend to break down petrochemicals in plastic)
- Pressed Coconut oil
- Grapeseed oil
- Ylang Ylang Essential oil
- Lavendar Essential Oil
- Frankincense Essential Oil

First I mixed 1/4 grapeseed oil and 3/4 coconut oil together in the glass jar. Be sure to mix very well to insure the oils do not separate. I then added ylang ylang, lavender and frankincense doTerra essential oils to the jar and mixed well. I then put the jar in the refrigerator to harden. When applying you only need a very small amount. The oils spread easily and smell intoxicating.

Lavender is great for reducing stress, calming inflammation, reducing acne and healing the skin
Ylang Ylang may help lift mood and create a positive attitude when agitated
Frankincense can be used for numerous benefits, but it is widely known to help heal the skin and scar tissue.

Homemade Cleanser

- Glass bottle or glass dispenser
- Rose Castile Soap
- Lavender
- Melaleuca

First add a table spoon of rose castile soap to the container. Then add 10 drops of Lavender and 10 drops of Melaleuca essential oils. These oils aid in the cleansing process as well as aid in skin healing and decreasing inflammation in the skin. Do not be afraid to use these types of oils on the skin. Oil dissolves oil therefore the oils will help breakdown dirt in clogged pours. I have struggled with acne for years but I never get clogged pores from using essential oils and coconut oil. I experience the exact opposite; clear skin and smooth skin.

Homemade After Shave

- Small glass mason jar
- coconut oil
- fresh Aloe Vera gel
- Melaleuca essential oil
- Lavender essential oil

Combine 3/4 coconut oil with Pure Aloe Vera gel and mix well. Add 10 drops of Melaleuca oil and Lavender oil. This after shave is great for calming shaved irritated skin and also works as an antiseptic. It may also help prevent ingrown hairs and razor burn.

A great place to find inexpensive glass jars is at Hobby Lobby

One of my favorite products I have made is my Skin Tightening Blend. It is great for loose skin as well as stretch marks and scarring. I have been using this blend morning and night and my stretch marks have lightened dramatically.  My husband even noticed that my skin had tightened up more. I also love that it has made my skin smooth where my stretch marks were. For the blend I used fractionated coconut oil, Peppermint, Slim and Sassy Metabolic Blend, Myrrh, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Grapefruit, and Frankincense  essential oil. I added 10-15 drops of each essential oil to the fractionated coconut oil. I used fractionated coconut oil for this blend because it absorbs rapidly into the skin and doesn't leave an oily residue.

How to Use Essential Oils Safely

It is my passion and purpose to educate the public on how to use essential oils as they were intended and safely to improve the health and wellness of individuals. Essential oils offer many benefits in improving overall health and wellness. Essential oils are extracted from plants to give you the concentrated properties of that plant. The same protective properties that are extracted from the plants can help protect human cells as well.

How Can Essential Oils Be Used?

1. Topically

Essential oils were first practiced topically by the English. Essential oils can be applied topically to the skin. When applied to the bottom of the feet, these potent oils reach the blood stream within thirty seconds. When I was first becoming familiar with essential oils I was a huge skeptic of putting oils on my feet. I tried it and found that within ten minutes I tasted that very oil in my mouth. I was shocked! Essential oils have such tiny molecules that they pass through the cells in the human body. When applying essential oils topically, some may need to be diluted by a carrier oil, like Coconut oil, Almond oil, Olive oil and Grapeseed Oil. I personally use fractionated Coconut oil because it is great for the skin and absorbs rapidly without any oily residue.

Some essentials oils may cause a skin irritation depending on how sensitive the user is. "Hot Oils" should always be diluted. They can be very stimulating and irritating on the skin alone. Some examples of "Hot Oils' are: Clove, Lemongrass, Oregano, Peppermint, Ginger, Cardamon, etc. I personally have never had a negative reaction to essential oils. I apply many oils without dilution because I do not have sensitive skin and do not feel the need to dilute. I do however dilute the oils that I apply to my thyroid because they are strong and "Hot". Essential oils can be applied to the bottom of the feet, the forehead, back of the neck, abdomen and reflexology points. Also be careful when applying citrus essential oils on the skin because they can cause photo sensitivity. As an Esthetician I recommend wearing sunscreen always, especially if you are using citrus essential oils.

2. Aromatically

The Germans mainly used essential oils for aromatherapy purposes.  Diffusing or smelling essential oils can have a profound affect on brain chemistry and emotions. The University of Maryland Medical Center states, "The 'smell' receptors in your nose communicate with parts of your brain (the amygdala and hippocampus) that serve as storehouses for emotions and memories. When you breathe in essential oil molecules, some researchers believe they stimulate these parts of your brain and influence physical, emotional, and mental health. For example, scientists believe lavender stimulates the activity of brain cells in the amygdala similar to the way some sedative medications work (http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/treatment/aromatherapy)". A few ways one can practice aromatherapy is by using a diffuser or applying one drop on your palm and inhaling. For improving sleep, I love diffusing Lavender or a Relaxation blend near my bedside.

3. Internally

There is a debate on the safety of using essential oils internally. The French were actually the first to practice ingesting essential oils in the 1950's, so it is nothing new. The fear of using essential oils internally comes from the lack of knowledge and education. There are specific regulations that should be heeded when using essential oils internally. ALWAYS follow the manufacturers instructions. If the oil bottle doesn't give directions for ingestion, then you shouldn't ingest the oil. One example of an essential oil that should never be ingested is Wintergreen. Applied topically it can be very helpful. There are many 100% pure essential oils that are safe to take internally provided that they are not in large quantities and you are not allergic to the plant.

Moderation is key in all things. Common sense also goes a long way. NEVER leave your essential oils where a child could reach them. If they downed an entire bottle, that would be cause for concern. But when oils are taken 1-2 drops at a time they are counted a safe. Essential oils are also included on the FDA's Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) guidelines. Essential oils can be taken internally many different ways. They can be dripped into a capsule, added to cooking and used to enhance the taste of water. One drop of Lemon oil when used in water helps to purify the water as well as detox the human body of petrochemicals. The first rule is always follow manufacturer instructions. The second is do not ingest anything you are allergic to. The third is to use common sense. You will know if your body doesn't like something. I can only speak for the research I have seen and my own testimony. I take essential oils internally daily. I use one drop of Wild Orange essential oil in my water because it instantly lifts my mood and strengthens my immune system. I ingest more oils when I am sick because I have noticed that it stops my cold from getting worse and I recover much quicker. I will usually add Oregano oil and a Protective Blend to a capsule and ingest three times a day until I see the symptoms begin to subside.

Not all essential oils are equal and not all are safe for ingestion. I would NEVER ingest cheap essential oils or one's found at health food stores. The company you use needs to be thoroughly researched to make sure the essential oils are 100% pure. That means that they have no synthetics, no fillers, no chemicals, no toxins, no ineffective compounds, just pure essential oils extracted from the plant. With that being said, pure essential oils should also be tested by a third party multiple times in order to ensure there no toxins or chemicals. Climate and the soil used to grow the plants also affect the quality of essential oils. Have your oils undergone Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Scanners? There are many factors in choosing a company to buy your essential oils from. Do your research.

Essential oils have become more common place in our society. Hospitals are beginning to use them because they affect the mood of the patients and staff. More and more health professionals are implementing them into their personal lives and practices.

Here's What Health Professionals Had To Say

"As long as they are from a reputable source and tested, I am all for it. I use a blend of essential oils for pain topically but I have found  when I ingest it I get a stronger response. Topically usually requires me to take 1/2 Norco as well. If I ingest every 4-6 hours I can get away with only taking 1 Norco a day 1/2 the time. DoTERRA essential oils have changed my life. I am all for medical science. I was taking 13-15 RX medications a day after 3 back surgeries and 16 days in the hospital last year...Thanks to my essential oils I am down to 1 medication a day...even my doctors are pleased with my progress."
- Jillian Thornton, Certified Medical Assistant, 15 years of practice in the medical field

"Not all essential oils are consumable, however those that are created to be used as supplements provide high concentrations of molecular compounds that provide benefits through their own unique molecular compound structures. In simplified terms the essential oils created for food. An example of an oil that is not called essential oil that is made from a plant that we consume is olive oil, and is widely known universally for it's health benefits."
- Roma Nall,  Dr. Roma J. Nall, DC, BS in Human Biology, Licensed in Radiology and in Dental.
