How to Use Essential Oils on Babies

First, Let's take care of mom!

To help with postpartum issues try combining equal drops of Frankincense and Lavender in a spray bottle with distilled water. Spray on the perineum after birth to soothe and speed up healing process. Some mothers also use this blend on circumcised infants. I really wish I would've known about this blend when I had my daughter. It took me, what seemed like forever, to heal.

Balance can also be helpful in keeping mommy grounded and emotionally balanced. This blend is also great for managing stress. Managing stress is important for breastfeeding to be successful. Relaxation helps with milk letdown. As mothers, our children feed off of our emotions so it is important to encourage a calm atmosphere. Balance can be applied on the bottoms of the feet for quick absorption. Diluting Balance with fractionated coconut oil is also great for applying to babies feet to help them feel less overwhelmed about leaving the "womb world". This is especially helpful after birth when baby has gone through the stressful experience of passing through the birth canal.

For mothers who have Caesarean scars, applying Immortelle and Frankincense to the scar area twice a day may help with healing and diminishing scars, as well as stretchmarks.

For breastfeeding mothers, Lifelong Vitality supplements will help keep you nourished since all your nutrients are going straight to your baby. For improving milk production try using Fennel above breast area. Breast tissue is very soft, therefore the Fennel will be absorbed quickly. Drink tons of water. Breastmilk is 50% water, so hydration is key. Dry and cracked nipples are very common in the beginning stages of breastfeeding. To help with cracking and possible scabbing, apply breastmilk to the nipple area and let air dry after every feeding. You can also dilute one drop of Myrrh, Geranium and Sandlewood with fractionated Coconut oil and apply to sore nipples. Lavender and Roman Chamomile are also great oils to use without dilution.

Essential Oils to Use on Newborn:

Frankincense is great for applying around crown of head and spine after birth.
Myrrh can be applied on umbilical cord to help heal tissue and protect all systems of the body.
Melissa can be applied on the bottoms of feet for DNA repair. This oil is also extremely helpful for mama.
I personally use Lavender oil in my baby girl's tub, especially when she has a red bum. Lavender has wonderful healing, relaxing and anti-inflammatory purposes.

For tummy issues, I use DigestZen diluted with fractionated coconut oil on her tummy and feet. Fennel is also useful for tummy issues. If tummy issues are persistent remember to re-apply, re-apply. This is key to seeing results with all essential oils.

Diaper Rashes
-Diluted sandalwood, myrrh, lavender, helichrysum, or melaleuca are all helpful in calming inflamed skin

Teething
-2 drops of White Fir to gums or 1 drop of diluted Clove oil to gums

Baby Powder Alternative
I have personally never used baby powder on my daughter, but if you need to, I recommend using a few drops of Lavender with cornstarch.

Eye infection
The best remedy for eye infections is breast milk...just squirt a drop in. You can also use diluted Lavender around the eye bone if you are not breastfeeding.

Fever
Peppermint and Patchouli oil diluted with fractionated Coconut oil are great natural fever reducers that cool the body down. Apply to bottoms of feet. These also work great for adults.

Dry Skin
Frankincense, Lavender and/or Serenity mixed with Coconut oil are all great choices for helping dry skin. Using these oils is also great to add to a bedtime routine.

Immune Boosters
Diluted On Guard rubbed on the bottom of feet is great for boosting the immune system. Frankincense is also great for keeping sicknesses and infections at bay. I apply Frankincense to my baby girl's chest and feet diluted when the rest of the family is sick, especially if someone is coughing around her.

Postpartum Depression
The Vitality supplements help to balance hormones quicker and bring you back to optimum health. They are helpful in reducing stress and boosting energy. Some oils that may help alleviate postpartum depression are: Balance, Serenity, Elevation, Bergamot, Wild Orange, and Whisper. I recommend diffusing these after childbirth to help with mood and hormone balancing. Frankincense may also help with severe depression. I personally love diffusing Ylang Ylang and applying it to my wrists for it's mood enhancing qualities.

Manly Tips for Using Essential Oils

There are many ways men can incorporate essential oils into their daily lives.

LEMON is your new best friend! Adding 2-3 drops of lemon oil can remove gum, residue, oil and grease stains. It can also help prevent rust and loosen screws. I actually should've told my husband this yesterday when he was fighting with the screws while trying to change our RV's tire. He got it eventually, but I am sure this would've helped the process...woops.

The use of melaleuca and lemon oil can clean a car battery and polish chrome wheels.

Hygiene
The regular use of On Guard toothpaste ensures fresh breathe and adds the protective benefits of essential oils that help fight germs and naturally whiten teeth.

Peppermint oil is a great way to freshen your breath instantly and help with nausea, as well as stomach upset. My husband uses peppermint oil to freshen his breath and clear his sinuses.

A great way to incorporate essential oils in your mouthwash is to use On Guard, melaleuca and peppermint to rinse with.

Shaving Tip
To soothe irritated skin, apply melaleuca and lavender oil with fractionated Coconut Oil. This will help prevent ingrown hairs and soothe redness.

Do you have stinky feet?
No worries! Just add a few drops of Purify, peppermint and any citrus oil to a paper towel and place in your shoes overnight.

Kick the energy drink habit with Mito2Max! This will give you the extra push you need without the crash and consumption of chemicals. This is a perfect supplement for all men, but especially those who live active lifestyles.

Stress
I know my husband can become stressed after a long day of work. Help yourself wind down with PastTense, a calming and relaxing blend of essential oils.

Tummy Problems
Do you suffer from stomach issues? Try a DigestZen Softgel to calm an upset stomach and ease digestion. Also great for heartburn. To promote healthy digestion, take Terrazyme with every meal.

For those who workout regularly, try adding lemongrass, Deep Blue and peppermint to your after workout routine. These oils will help renew overtired and overworked muscles.

Men Love Diffused Oils Too!
Add 2-4 drops of essential oils to your diffuser in the office or garage or bedroom.
- Wintergreen and Cedarwood for confidence and self-esteem

Athletes Using Essential Oils
Head football coach at Bethany College in Kansas, Manny Matsakis , realizes how important using essential oils is for his health and his players. The Best Essential Oils To Use During Pregnancy

When I was pregnant I was very afraid to use essential oils. Part of that fear came from the widely accessible information online. Some information said it was harmful and some said it wasn't. This left me distraught and confused. I didn't want to use anything to harm my unborn child at the time. I had minimal knowledge of essential oils and what makes each brand different. For example, Doterra offers 100%  Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils. Many companies are not pure. Many have fillers and harmful chemicals added to them. Doterra is also third party tested. After I gave birth, I really became more exposed to essential oils, how to use them and how to benefit from them. I now know based on scientific research and findings, that many Doterra essential oils are safe and beneficial for pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding.

Here are some of the best essential oils you can use during pregnancy:

DigestZen Digestive Blend- Great for nausea and vomiting; May also help with diarrhea and constipation, which is common during pregnancy.

Breathe Respiratory Blend- I actually did use this oil while I was pregnant. I had a very bad cold and couldn't breath, so I would smell this oil often. It would clear my airways and help my sinuses. This oil blend is also helpful for congestion and general cold symptoms.

Deep Blue Soothing Blend- This blend is great for soothing sore muscles and joints.

Doterra Balance- This is a great blend for emotional health. I personally wish I would've known about this blend and trusted it while I was pregnant because I had emotional issues. My moods were very unstable as well. It can be used for anxiety, feeling weepy or any emotional distress.

Frankincense- This is one of my absolute favorite oils! It is a heal all and very versatile. During pregnancy it can be help boost immunity. It is also great for the skin, organs and emotional health. When in doubt, trust Frankincense.

Onguard- This blend helps to boost overall immunity health. Perfect for fighting off infections. I even use this one on my little one now. Always dilute essential oils with fractionated Coconut Oil when used on children.

Helichrysum- When this oil is applied during delivery, it can help prevent head bruising, swelling and bleeding. It is also helpful for healing cracked nipples from breastfeeding.

Clary Sage- This oil is unique in that it helps to detox the uterus. It can aid in contractions.

Lifelong Vitality- I wish I would've used these while I was pregnant! They are the best prenatal vitamins! This supplement includes vitamins, minerals, a blend of essential oils, and omega 3s. What's unique about these vitamins is that they contain a food nutrient complex so you are sure to receive all those essential vitamins and minerals. I hate when I find out I wasted money on vitamins because they aren't even absorbing. That is not the case with Doterra's Lifelong Vitality.

Useful Tips:

For stretch marks try Immortelle, Lavender and Myrrh. I tried every cream for stretch marks while I was pregnant and nothing seemed to help, but oils help the body heal itself. I highly recommend this regimen.

For swelling/Water Retention try lemon oil, grapefruit oil or cypress.

How To Use MYRRH Essential Oil

What is Myrrh?

Myrrh is the aromatic resin of a number of small, thorny tree species of the genus Commiphora, which is an essential oil termed an oleoresin. Myrrh resin is a natural gum. It has been used throughout history as a perfume, incense and medicine. It can also be ingested by mixing it with wine.
When a tree wound penetrates through the bark and into the sapwood, the tree bleeds a resin. Myrrh gum, like frankincense, is such a resin. When people harvest myrrh, they wound the trees repeatedly to bleed them of the gum. Myrrh gum is waxy, and coagulates quickly. After the harvest, the gum becomes hard and glossy. The gum is yellowish, and may be either clear or opaque. It darkens deeply as it ages, and white streaks emerge.

In order to extract the oil, Doterra uses steam distillation. The medicinal properties for Myrrh include:

Anti-infectious
Anti-inflammatory
Antiseptic
Anti-tumor
Astringent
Tonic

Primary Uses for Myrrh include:

Cancer, Chapped or cracked skin, Congestion, Dysentary, Gum Disease, Hashimoto's Disease, Hepatitis, Hypothyroidism, Infection, Liver Cirrhosis, Skin Ulcers, Stretch Marks, Ulcers, and Weeping Wounds

Historically Myrrh has been used for many uses over the decades. It has been used in religious ceremonies as well as to cure cancer, leprosy, and syphilis. The french have been known to use it for bronchitis, diarrhea, hyperthyroidism, ulcers and thrush.

Other Possible Uses Include:

Increasing appetite, asthma, athlete's foot, candida, coughs, eczema, digestion, flatulence, mouth ulcers, sore throats, gingivitis, hemorrhoids, wounds, and wrinkles.

When diffused Myrrh can promote awareness and be uplifting.

When used as directed, Myrrh can be used aromatically, topically and internally. I only recommend internal use by oils companies that are 100% certified and pure, such as Doterra. I cannot vouch for the purity of other companies.
